Giants will win Super Bowl XLVI, predicts ‘Madden NFL 12′

By Ben Silverman | Plugged In @ Yahoo Games

The New England Patriots might be the odds-on favorite to win Super Bowl XLVI, but the New York Giants have proven an uncanny knack for making odds-makers look ridiculous.

And according to Madden, they’re about to do it again.

EA Sports has simulated Sunday’s Big Game in Madden NFL 12 on the Xbox 360, and in another insane playoff nail-biter, the Giants edged out the Patriots, 27-24, to take home the franchise’s fourth Lombardi trophy.

But forget about the anticipated match-up between Tom Brady and Eli Manning. Like the last two playoff games, this one came down to a field goal. Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes, fresh off demolishing the dreams of San Francisco fans in OT, knocked down a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Giants the victory. Wonder if they simulated a virtual Billy Cundiff weeping pixilated tears, too?

The unlikely Giants win almost didn’t happen. The Madden simulation saw Brady rally his troops from a 24-10 fourth quarter deficit, throwing for two TDs to tie up the game. But like he’s done all year, Manning stormed back during the last Giants possession to set up the game-winning kick. He was also named the game’s MVP, finishing 25-39 for 342 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

The annual Madden simulation has proven pretty accurate at picking Super Bowl winners, though it fumbled pretty badly last year in taking the Steelers over the Packers. Still, it’s got a track record most gamblers would envy, nailing 6 of the last 8 games.

Princess Takes Bills Over Giants In Week 6 Action

It’s week 6 of the NFL season and Princess the Camel was thwarted in her attempt last week to start the season off with a perfect 5-0 record of winning picks, instead she ended the week with a respectable 4-1 record. Last week if you remember, Princess the prognosticating Camel of Popcorn Park Zoo, picked the NY Jets to defeat the NE Patriots, I advised against the pick and chose the Pats thus coming out as the winner.

This week however is a new week and brings with it another chance of predicting the outcome of yet another NFL game. This week’s game that Princess has the pleasure of prognosticating over is the NY Giants Vs. the Buffalo Bills, at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.

Siting Eli Manning’s 3 interceptions thrown in last weeks loss to the Seahawks as main reason for choosing the Bills to beat the Giants this week Princess stated, “…He threw to the defense 3 times last week. How can you win like that? They might straighten themselves out, but not this week — the Bills are winning!!”

Princess logic may or may not be hard to argue with but the one thing I know is that anything can happen out on the field on any given Sunday. And even though the Giants are banged up and coming off a bad loss, they are still a good football team that should prevail this week.

I think Eli turns it around this week and drives the Giants down the field and on to victory over the Bills.

Who’s right, Princess or MiddletownMike? We’ll have to wait for Sunday to find out.

NFL Week 4- Princess Takes the Giants

Princess the Camel is on an impressive roll prognosticating NFL winners and losers this young season. After predicting the Oakland Raiders to upset the heavily favored NY Jets last Sunday, Princess has start off the season with 3 winners.

This week Princess has decided that the NY Giants are about ready to start on a roll of their own, she has chosen them to beat the Arizona Cardinals out in Pheonix this Sunday.

“I think the Giants finally got things straightened out John. The defense got it done last week and Eli only threw the balls to his own teammates, not the other team. So he might be on a roll.” Princess said after revealing her choice to her handler John.

Being a Giants fan myself, I love Princess pick this week. I hope her 3 week winning streak as well as the Giants 2 game winning streak is extend Sunday.
The Giants certainly put a lot of critics to rest last week with their win over the Philadelphia Eagles it would be a real shame if they lost this game to the Cardinals and let all the naysayers and doubters return.

Princess The Camel Picks Jets Over Jags For Week Two

For all you football heads out there, week two of the NFL season is upon us and that prognosticating camel of Popcorn Park Zoo, Princess, is at it again; predicting the winners from the area’s 3 NFL team, Giants, Jets & Eagle.

This is Princesses fourth season of making game predictions and if you have followed her through the years like I have, you know that she has an uncanny ability at picking game winners. That’s why I try and devote post to her picks each week during the NFL season.

To open the season last week, Princess correctly chose the NY Jets to beat the Dallas Cowboy on Sunday night.

This week Princess goes to the well again and chooses the NY Jets to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars, having this to say of the Jets and their coach Rex Ryan after coming back from a 10 point deficit to beat the Cowboys, “…whatever he’s selling, his players are buying, and they are playing real hard for him….”.

That seems like a good enough reason for me, now let’s see if it pans out on Sunday.

>NFL Fans: A Letter From Roger Goodell

>If your a fan of the national Football League this may be interesting to you, I received this open letter last night from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The letter was issued shortly after contract negotiations between the NFL owners and players broke off and an impasse declared by the players union which lead to the players union decertifying.

In the open letter, Goodell explains the owners position during negotiations and expresses their desire to continue the collective bargaining and mediation process so that an agreement between the two sides can serve the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans:

Dear NFL Fan,

When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players’ union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players’ union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the player’s financial demands in the latter years of the agreement.

The proposal we made included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee a reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players ($82 million contributed by the owners over the next two years).

It was a deal that offered compromise, and would have ensured the well-being of our players and guaranteed the long-term future for the fans of the great game we all love so much. It was a deal where everyone would prosper.

We remain committed to collective bargaining and the federal mediation process until an agreement is reached, and call on the union to return to negotiations immediately. NFL players, clubs, and fans want an agreement. The only place it can be reached is at the bargaining table.

While we are disappointed with the union’s actions, we remain steadfastly committed to reaching an agreement that serves the best interest of NFL players, clubs and fans, and thank you for your continued support of our League. First and foremost it is your passion for the game that drives us all, and we will not lose sight of this as we continue to work for a deal that works for everyone.

Yours,
Roger Goodell

>Superbowl XLV; Princess Picks The Packers Over The Steelers

>Princess the Camel has spoken, with her last prediction for the season, Princess has chosen the Green Bay Packers to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Superbowl XLV this coming Sunday.

What’s the reasoning behind Princesses prediction? It seems to have more to do with personal feels towards Green Bay’s linebacker Clay Matthews and what he said about Michael Vick than it does with how she expects the game to be played by the Steelers.

Princess stated, “..The Packers are my team. The quarterback Rogers is on fire right now and I think he might light the Steelers up. And that Packers linebacker – Clay Matthews … I like that guy. A couple of weeks ago before the game with Philadelphia he said he had 3 dogs and couldn’t wait to play Philadelphia and tackle that quarterback ……. and he did just that. He’s my kind of guy!!…”

I don’t know if I agree with Princess on this one. I think it will be a great game but I’m leaning towards the Steelers.
After being on fire for the last 5 or 6 games of the season, Packers’s quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a so-so game against the Bears in the NFC Championship game and now with two week layoff between games I’m not so sure that he will be as sharp in this game.
The Steelers on the other hand are consistent and have been there before. Say what you will about Ben Roethlisberger and his character flaws, he’s tough. All the guy has done is win in the NFL and with two previous Superbowl titles under his belt, he know what it takes to play in the game and come out victorious.
My prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers 27 Green Bay Packers 24
And by the way… if you’d like to support Princess for all her prognosticating over the past number of seasons and into the future, you can sponsor her in the Wildlife Club, she’ll appreciate it!
