Senate Leadership Discusses President Obama’s Address to Congress

A few hours ago the US. Senate Democrats release the following video on their Youtube channel.

The video chronicles a press conference that was held today by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer and Democratic Conference Secretary Patty Murray to discuss President Obamas address to Congress and Senate Democrats plans to work with him to revive our economy and make life better for struggling Americans.

“Last night the American people heard something we hadn’t heard in a very, very long time — an honest assessment of where we are as a country,” Reid said. “We also heard a strong vision of how we’re going to work together to make life for struggling Americans better. We took a strong step by passing the economic recovery package, and he talked about that at some length. He also talked about three things that we all must focus on: energy, education and health care.”

Senate Dems set Feb. 13 goal for stimulus

The Hill – Democratic senators have set a goal of Feb. 13 to pass an $800 billion economic stimulus package proposed by President-elect Obama.

Senate Democrats said they made significant progress during a rare two-hour Sunday meeting with Lawrence Summers, a senior Obama aide who will head the National Economic Council.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), vice chairman of the Democratic conference, told reporters that Obama’s economic team was proceeding with the stimulus in the “right way.”
“They put together a broad outline and are asking us to fill in the details,” said Schumer. “We could get it to the president’s desk by the 13th, which is our deadline.”

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, applauded the incoming Obama administration’s response to criticism its proposal received on Capitol Hill last week.

“It is very clear that they’ve listened and heard and are working to respond,” said Conrad. “They’re not defensive and arguing back.”

Conrad said he received a call from Summers on Friday after he criticized Obama’s proposal to include several tax incentives such as a $3,000 tax credit to employers for each new hire.
